abstract

background aspergillus fumigatus (af) is responsible for 90% of human infections. the lung is the predominate site of infection. it is able to colonize in respiratory tract of asymptomatic population and changed clinical features from noninvasive to invasive according to immuncomponent state of individuals. the aim of the present study was to determine the frequency of af immunoglobulin (igg) antibodies among chronic persistent asthmatic patients in tehran. materials and methods chronic asthmatic patients, aged 15-60 years, were sequentially enrolled from out-patient respiratory clinics. the specific af igg antibodies, white blood cells count, peripheral eosinophil count, and immunoglobulin e antibodies were also measured. results totally, 497 chronic stable asthmatic patients were studied with the mean age of 45 years. aspergillus igg antibodies were detected in 285 subjects (57.3%). the mean (±standard deviation) serum ige level was 257.22± 338.07iu/ml (ranged from 3.9 to 4333 iu/ml). chest x -ray abnormalities were noted in 25 patients (<0.01%). af igg antibodies were observed in more than half of the chronic stable asthmatic patients. therefore, significant colonization of aspergillus fumigatus occurred in asthmatic patients without prominent clinical symptoms.

Prevalence of specific immunoglobulin E and G against Aspergillus fumigatus in patients with asthma

Background and Purpose: Aspergillus fumigatus as a ubiquitous fungus can be found in the respiratory tract of the asthmatic and healthy people. The inhalation of Aspergillus spores leads to an immune response in individuals with asthma and results in the aggravation of the clinical symptoms. The present study aimed to investigate the prevalence of specific immunoglobulin E and G (IgE and IgG) a...

Seroprevalence of Bordetella pertussis immunoglobulin G antibodies among children in Samsun, Turkey.

In this study, we aimed to investigate anti-pertussis immunoglobulin (Ig) G antibodies in the serum of children in our region vaccinated against pertussis with four doses. Between August 2008-2009, antibody levels to Bordetella pertussis (B. pertussis) antigens were studied in 385 serum samples from healthy children aged 1.5-18 years (y) vaccinated against pertussis in Samsun, Turkey. The study...

Seroprevalence of Aspergillus fumigatus antibodies in bovine herds with a history of reproductive disorders

Bovine reproductive disorders are of growing interest from both economic and health standpoints. The role that fungi play in these processes is becoming increasingly important. Study of the seroprevalence of anti-Aspergillus antibodies in cow sera taken from herds with previous reproductive disorders is therefore of great interest. We used an indirect ELISA technique, that had shown suitable re...

Monoclonal immunoglobulin G1 directed against Aspergillus fumigatus cell wall glycoprotein protects against experimental murine aspergillosis.

Most of the biological functions related to pathogenicity and virulence reside in the fungal cell wall, which, being the outermost part of the cell, mediates the host-fungus interplay. For these reasons much effort has focused on the discovery of useful inhibitors of cell wall glucan, chitin, and mannoprotein biosynthesis. In the absence of a wide-spectrum, safe, and potent antifungal agent, a ...
